The surrogacy process involves several steps, including screening potential surrogate mothers, matching with intended parents, medical procedures, and legal documents. A thorough medical evaluation is performed on the surrogate mother to determine that she is physically and emotionally fit to carry a child to term. The intended parents are involved in the process from the start, choosing a surrogate mother and participating in medical consultations.

What is defined as surrogacy?
Surrogacy is defined by law as “an event in which a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth after in vitro fertilization using an egg foreign to her on behalf of another woman who wishes to have a child but cannot conceive for medical reasons”.
At IVMED Family, we take an extremely thorough approach to the examination, preparation and conduct of treatment using surrogacy methods. A prerequisite is the psychological screening of future surrogate mothers, as well as the ongoing support of both bio-parents and surrogates during the program.
Indications for surrogacy
The procedure of surrogacy is regulated in Ukraine by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science № 787. All legal issues are clearly regulated and described. Indications for surrogacy are:
- Absence of the uterus (congenital or acquired).
- Deformation of the cavity or cervix in case of congenital malformations or as a result of surgical interventions, benign tumours, in which it is impossible to carry a pregnancy.
- Structural, morphological or anatomical changes in the endometrium leading to loss of receptivity, uterine synechiae that cannot be treated.
- Severe somatic diseases in which carrying a pregnancy threatens the recipient’s further health or life, but which do not affect the health of the unborn child.
- Unsuccessful repeated attempts at ART (4 or more times) with repeated receipt of high-quality embryos, the transfer of which did not lead to pregnancy.
